While I was putting together the pages for the Picture a Tale website, I came to a halt on the “About” page – I will talk about the concept and the artwork, but how much do I talk about myself? It turned out, not a lot. Here are some little bits more or less relevant to complete that:
I was born and grew up in Romania, in a place with a name that translates freely as “Middle of Nowhere”.
Did a lot of reading as a child.
Tales of all sorts were my favorites by far, even though you could always tell how they end.
Also did some drawing, mostly things that had to do with those tales.
Moved to Bucharest, then Belgium, then Boston, then Hawaii. All great places in their own way.
Did some more reading and drawing.
Spent a few years in front of a computer screen trying to make sense of numbers and letters.
At some point during the above, went back to school at the wonderfully free School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Reading and drawing started to come together.
I am still in Hawaii, and still loving it, mostly.
Have 2 kids, 2 1/2 and 9 months. And another one on the way.
There is a name for it: “baby bunching“. There should be some benefits from this later, but right now we’re still in the thick of the madness.
Taking care of babies all day creates a lot of free mental real estate.
Picture a Tale is a way of taking advantage of that. And I get to read and draw some.
It has been a fun, unnerving, sometimes tiring, definitely rewarding experience so far and I can’t wait to do more!
